Blogger Blues

Ok, I have to be honest.  I don't like to make resolutions, but I always strive to be better and to make goals. One of my goals for 2012 was to blog twice a week.

Well, I didn't make it this/last week (depending upon how you view the calendar).

Twice a week for me works best on Sunday and Wednesday.  There was no Sunday post this week.  So, I'll flog myself with a wet noodle in preparation for Lent.

I'll try to post an additional blog later this week (and again on Sunday)....but does anyone out there face the Blogger Blues? It's not writer's block in which you know what you want to write about but can't find the words.  With Blogger Blues, you simply don't have any topic at all, and therefore, the words aren't relevant.

So... I've tried to write about business applications, marketing strategies, favorite shops, and alas! my own products.  But Sunday and today, nothing. Rien.

Does writing about Blogger Blues count for writing a blog? For today, I'm going to pretend that it does. Because blogs are about getting to know one another, and like it or not, these blues are what I'm going through at the moment.

Maybe Friday I'll find a recipe to post. Or a book to review. Or any other inspiration. But these Blogger Blues also define me. Please don't be offended.  I'm just being honest.

  6. I have one guaranteed blog post a week, that's a weekly artist feature. I have artist lined up till April.
As for other things to post about, I sometimes have no clue. If I made art more often I would just post that. I really need to get back to my goal of a new art a week.

Hope you get over your blogger blues :) I suppose it happens to us all.

  7. I've been a writer for most of my career and this happens to everyone! As a blogger - I have several - I vowed to be brutally honest no matter what. When I'm going through something deeply personal, I find it so difficult to come up with any topic because I'm still processing stuff mentally and deciding what I can share.

This also happens when I just busy with life! It becomes a chore. For those times I have certain fall back topics that work for me. A photo of my dog works for my Creekhiker blog. For my professional bead and jewelry blog my fall back topics are: Inside my jewelry box or describing my newest creation (something I don't often do but... fills the space! )

Featuring artisans who's products work with yours is always a good idea. I feature jewelry artists. You could feature handmade candle holders...

    1. I do try feature an Etsy shop every two-three posts, but it's a great idea to have fall back topics. I should just make a list of those.

  8. Another thought... color posts rock! Pick items featuring similar colors and include one of your gorgeous candles!

  9. I started writing professionally in 1981 when I published my first magazine article. I taught journalism and English for 13 years. I now publish a sporting magazine and spend my days proofreading and writing.

I hate to blog, but because of Etsy, I'm giving it a try. I struggle each week to find something slightly interesting to write about.

When I can't think of anything to write about, I go to my mom's old recipe file. She's gone now, but I hope these old-fashioned, but tried and true recipes will make others smile (and maybe give some of the youngsters something new to try out).

So, Dorene (and the others who have the blogger's blues), when you have writer's block, don't fret. Fall back on things you love. And, hopefully, we will all learn new and exciting things about our world around us.

  11. Oh yeah, I try to post twice a week too (Weds and Sundays). Sometimes I'm also tired and don't feel like writing too much. Blogging is quite time consuming, as you probably already know. I keep a list of websites/pages I visit during my off time that I think others may enjoy so I always have a list to choose from when the time comes to blog... such as cool furniture, nice scenery, informative graphics, etc. It beats trying to come up with something last minute when you're not feeling particularly inspired.
